The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is committed to overseeing the introduction of mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for driver trainers. The aim of this is to produce better skilled and qualified driver trainers whilst creating a clear pathway for those within the driver training profession. Many professions see CPD as a natural process to develop skills and knowledge, perhaps to become better practitioners or to seek new qualifications to move forward with their career, the driver training profession has called for a mandatory scheme as soon as practicable. Portonian Driver Tuition aim is to raise professional standards and increase awareness of continuing professional development within the driver training industry. Portonian have put together a comprehensive range of courses designed to help trainers develop a structured career path. The courses not only enable trainers to gain further qualifications but increase their knowledge and help them understand the many opportunities which are developing in the field of driver education.

Level 3 NVQ in Driving Instruction

This NVQ is designed for those people who are already working as Driving Instructors. When you have completed the Level 3 NVQ in Driving Instruction, you will be gaining recognition for your experience in the key areas of:

  • Providing high quality instruction
  • Ensuring the safety of yourself and others
  • Offering a service that is responsive to individual needs
  • Guiding and managing the learning process
  • Staff and business management

The aim of this qualification is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of Driving Instruction. It provides insight into the principles and processes of Driving Instruction and will aid career progression. To receive a full award in Driving Instruction, you are required to complete the following units:

  • Prepare to drive the vehicle
  • Demonstrate safe driving
  • Supervise learner driving
  • Contribute to Health and Safety in your work environment
  • Provide professional customer care
  • Facilitate learning in the driving environment through demonstration
  • Facilitate individual learning in the driving environment through coaching
  • Monitor and review learner driver progress with learners
  • Provide commentary whilst driving
  • Faciltate group learning through presentations and activities
